“Regardless of whether a biker has any type of church affiliation or spiritual affiliation, there's just something about a bike blessing,” said Pastor Phil Willingham of Heartland Full Throttle Church. “They like to have their bike blessed at the beginning of the year as soon as possible so they can enjoy the riding season.”

The parking lot quickly became a showcase of diverse motorcycle styles, each reflecting the unique personality of its owner. Riders spent some time before the blessing chatting and admiring each other’s bikes, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. It was a time to swap stories and meet fellow bikers.

Whether a seasoned rider or a newcomer to the motorcycle community, all were welcomed. The bikers embraced the opportunity to create new friendships and connections. For Willingham, this is one of his favorite things about the event.

"Continuously meeting new people is a highlight,” said Willingham. “It’s exciting to see all the new faces that show up for the blessing.”

When time came for the blessing, participants gathered around Willingham, listening intently, as he began reading a passage from the Bible — Psalm 34:1-9. He then prayed a blessing of safety over everyone as they ride this year. Riders bowed their heads in reverence, seeking protection and guidance for their journeys ahead.

After the blessing, several of the bikers prepared to go on a group ride organized by the Duneland Harley Owners Group (HOG) Chapter. Over 30 bikes lined the street, ready to hit the road together. Riders revved their engines in anticipation before taking off, one after another. Duneland HOG Director Leslie Liess rode as tailgunner to ensure no one was left behind.

"It's the camaraderie and the joy of meeting so many great people along the way that makes it special,” said Liess.
